Kristen N. Mackintosh, Attorney-at-Law

Kristen Mackintosh, born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, is an Elder Law and Estate Planning Attorney based in Garner, North Carolina. Kristen has been a practicing Attorney since 1996.  She was licensed in Ohio in 1996, and in North Carolina in 2013 after moving back home. 

Kristen’s dad suffered a stroke twenty years ago, leaving him paralyzed on one side and unable to speak.  Watching her mom transition from wife to caregiver and then her dad transition from home care to nursing home care left Kristen with a passion for helping her clients navigate through life’s unexpected changes. 

Although her dad was fortunate in having his estate planning and long term care insurance in place, not everyone is so fortunate.  Kristen has made it her mission to make sure everyone, young and old, are protected throughout life.  She understands the legal, financial an emotional struggles our loved ones face as they age.  As a child of a caregiver, she understands how tough it is to watch your parents age.  

Bringing the Happy Lawyer style to her practice

Kristen started her own law practice because she wanted to change how estate planning was done.  She is known as The Happy Lawyer for a reason – she brings warmth, compassion and positivity to her clients.  There are no draft or meeting limits here.  Kristen will take as much time as her clients need to get them a well-drafted, individualized plan just for them.  And, most importantly, she takes the time to educate her clients on exactly what they are signing and why they need their particular documents.

With her personal experience and a smile, Kristen guides her clients in making the estate planning and elder law practice not so scary.  She treats every client as if they were a friend.  In fact, some of her clients have been known to ask if they really have to leave when they are finished with their planning.  

Nothing makes Kristen happier when she hears clients remark “wow, I don’t feel like I’m in an attorney’s office – you make me feel so comfortable.” 

And, did we mention the homemade cookies and mini-loaves that Kristen gives here clients?

Kristen’s practice focuses exclusively on Elder Law, Asset Protection, Estate Planning, Medicaid Crisis Planning, Probate, and Small Business. She understands what her clients are going through, because she has been there herself. 

Kristen dedicates herself and her practice to treating each of her clients as if they were her own family. 

When not practicing law, Kristen enjoys spending time with her family and her dog, Bailey.  She loves cooking meals and trying new recipes, and is an avid reader — especially mysteries and thrillers, whenever she has a spare moment.
